Three tech stories you need to read today

Here are three stories (and a brief comment about each) you don’t want to miss today:

Samsung Warns DRAM Oversupply on Weak PC Sales ABC News – Baker Li – Miyoung Kim – 19 hours ago
TAIPEI/SEOUL (Reuters) – Samsung Electronics, the world’s top memory chipmaker, warned of an oversupply.. in the computer memory

So that’s what Micron’s stock was telling us when we took our lumps on it a few weeks ago.  Ugh.  The good news is that means our smartphones will be even smarter and running faster with cheap DRAM component pricing this time next year.
IPad Whacking PC Estimates, Raising Tablets Forbes (blog) – Elizabeth Woyke
He cites three main factors for the increase: greater availability of the iPad; upcoming international launches of the device; and imminent tablet launches …

Any chance that we can “flip it” on this logic and argue that eventually iPad could be good for PC sales?  No?  I agree.  Next gen iPads, tablets, new form factors and projector interfaces are coming…and they’re gonna replace much of the PC sales.  PC sales is a GDP reflection at best now.

Android’s future looks bright, but for how long?
by Nathania Johnson

A few reports released in the past few days point to great things to come for Google’s Android mobile operating system.

A Quantcast chart shows Android stealing market share from everyone in the mobile web consumption department.

Remember that smartphones are still only going to be about 25% or so of the global market this year.  That’ll gradually hit more than 90% marketshare as today’s smartest, most expensive phones become tomorrow’s dumbest, cheapest but obviously remain true app-enabled smartphones.
